High School Tennis Roundup: Bolles, Episcopal, Creekside advance in regionals

Boys

Region 1-2A

Eighth-grader Sammy Eden and seventh-grader Davey Crouch led a young Bolles squad to a 5-0 victory over Menendez in the Region 1-2A semifinals.

The Bulldogs next play Thursday against the winner of the match between Stanton and Ridgeview.

Region 2-1A

Episcopal advanced to the regional finals with a 5-0 sweep of P.K. Yonge. Sean Halloran, Sid Yarlagadda, Davis Walker, Charlie Conway, and Walter Wood combined to win every set for the Eagles.

Trinity Christian’s season ended in a 6-1 loss to Gainesville Oak Hall. Oak Hall will play host to Episcopal Thursday.

Girls

Region 1-2A

Bolles defeated visiting Ridgeview 4-0 in Tuesday’s Region 1-2A semifinal. Seniors Sarah Jane Jones, Chandler Beachy, Caroline Crouch, and Mallory Abercrombie led the Bulldogs’ sweep.

The Bulldogs, state champions in 2012 and runners-up in 2013, next play in Thursday’s regional final against Menendez or Stanton.

Region 2-1A

Taryn Peterson didn’t drop a game and her teammates combined to win all 10 sets, leading Episcopal to a 6-0 shutout of Ocala Trinity Catholic in Tuesday’s Region 2-1A semifinal.

The Eagles will play the winner of Wednesday’s P.K. Yonge-Providence contest. Episcopal would travel to P.K. Yonge, but would play at home against Providence.

Region 2-3A

Creekside advanced to the Region 2-3A final after shutting out Gainesville 5-0. Three Knights, led by Marisa Ruiz, won their matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

They next meet the winner of the Orange Park-Ponte Vedra contest.
