MJD: 2013 statistical breakdown

Maurice Jones-Drew said after signing with Oakland he had “a ton” left in his tank. And he may prove that to be true with the Raiders.

But his last season with the Jaguars was more than enough to show the regime they needed to move on from him.

Looking back at each of his carries reveals the data:

*He went without a touchdown in his last 76 carries of the year.

*Only 39 of his carries went for a first down (five went for touchdowns).

*Only 17 rushes gained 10 or more yards.

*He had 27 rushes that gained no yards.

*He had 27 rushes that lost yardage.

*That means 23 percent of his attempts either gained nothing or lost yardage.

*His touchdowns went for 2, 5, 6, 1 and 1 yards.

*He rushed 234 times for 803 yards (career-low 3.4-yard per carry average).

(Jones-Drew would have a valid defense for some of his less productive games: The Jaguars gave up on the running game when falling behind, the offensive line was in a constant state of flux, etc.).

We will see if Gerhart was over paid come this season. I still believe Gerhart will be the steal of free agency. He was a backup to the best RB in the game. A.Peterson played every down and refused to take himself off the field. So Gerharts stats mean little with the exception of 4.7 ypc. When he did play he got his yards. The Minnasota fans have nothing but praise for the guy.

In 4 years Toby Gerhart has only 6 starts, played in 61 games and has only 276 attempts rushing for 1305 yards, averaging a respectable 4.7 ypa. He scored 5 rushing and 3 receiving TD's. His yards per reception was 7.8.
He also had 7 fumbles.
The above was taken from Sports-Reference.com

Of note should be he wasn't even listed in the top 10 free agent RB's at the start of FA this year. IMO, Toby received too large of a pay raise for a RB that had only 6 starts in 4 years and only 276 rushing attempts. To further underscore the blunder, MJD had almost as many carries his last year as Toby in 4 years, MJD had Toby's 5 lifetime rushing TD's in his last year here, and more! All this coming off surgery from a foot injury that should have happened 6 months earlier, but he should have known, having seen DG in the same boat.

He has inside information, direction and fabrication which he is using to try and justify paying Toby 3.5 M and letting MJD walk. If Toby gets 1000 yards I would be thrilled, but that isn't happening. If we are only sacked 50 times, I'd be surprised. If any rookie QB records more wins than BG in any given year, I'd be happy and surprised.

This guy knows nothing about football.

Fifty sacks in 2012. Fifty sacks in 2013.

Statistical BREAKDOWN is the perfect choice of words.
