Camp Kateri, the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council's summer resident camp for girls ages 6 to 17, will hold an open house Sunday.
The event will held from 3 to 5 p.m. at the camp, which is located about 30 miles southeast of Gainesville.
Camp Kateri offers a variety of activities including archery, water sports, horseback riding, science, arts and performance, among other things. Each session is centered on a weekly theme that caters to each age group, with activities that allow girls to learn new skills, have fun and form friendships, according to a news release.
At the open house, visitors will learn about the various camp sessions, meet summer camp directors and staff, make crafts, get packing tips and tour the camp and sleeping quarters, including treehouses, tents and cabins.
The Jacksonville-based council owns and operates the 550-acre camp, which has two lakes, hiking trails, equestrian center, archery range and other adventure activity facilities. Girls do not have to be scouts to attend camp.
To RSVP for the open house, call (877) 764-5237. Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, as walking is the most common form of transportation.
Camp Kateri is located at 183 Camp Shalom Trail in Hawthorne. For more information or to register, go to campkateri.girlscouts-gateway.org.
