‘Backcountry Lawman’ and nemsis together

Bob Lee, author of “Backcountry Lawman,” along with primary nemesis in the book, Roger Gunter, will be putting on an entertaining presentation 5-6 p.m. Saturday at the Welaka Lodge & Resort, 1001 Front St. There is no admission charge.

New assistant public defender

Daniel Benchimol has been appointed to serve as assistant public defender in the Nassau County office. Benchimol comes to the 4th Judicial Circuit from Putnam County, where he was an assistant public defender. Benchimol is a graduate of the Florida Coastal

School of Law and lives in Neptune Beach.

Kentucky Derby party benefits Community Hospice

A Derby Run Party will be 3-8 p.m. Saturday at the Roberts Ranch at 4175 Florida 16 in St. Augustine to benefit Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. The event will watch the 140th Running of the Roses with a catered dinner, cash bar, silent auction, drawing and charity betting.
