BRUNSWICK | Strong winds from a thunderstorm that swept past Brunswick knocked down trees and power lines on the Golden Isles Parkway west of Interstate 95 causing the closure of the western end of the parkway, the Glynn County police said.

Police Chief Matt Doering described the winds as a strong micro-burst that struck Georgia 99, Timber Ridge and the Touchstone Parkway area.

Doering said it could be several hours before the road is reopened.
