A man with a knife who barricaded himself in a Jacksonville motel Thursday night over an unpaid bill was arrested early Friday after an overnight SWAT team standoff, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Shawn Pierre Morrow was charged with criminal mischief and jailed on $100,000 bail, according to Duval County jail records.

Officers went to the Diamond Inn at 5929 Ramona Blvd. about 7:30 p.m. after a man vandalized his room when managers tried to kick him out because he hadn’t paid his bill, Lt. S.J. Spates said. The man told police by telephone that he would kill “anyone who walks through his door,” according to the arrest report. He was seen cutting curtains and breaking glass before barricading himself in his room as the SWAT team was called out.

Police evacuated the east side of the motel and part of Ramona Boulevard was shut down during the standoff.

Morrow was arrested at about 1:10 a.m., police said. He has a long list of prior arrests dating back to 2005 for charges that include child abuse, auto theft, violation of an injunction for domestic abuse, aggravated assault and domestic battery, according to jail records.
