A jury Thursday convicted a Jacksonville man of shooting another man in the head twice during a drug deal before crashing and getting into his brother’s getaway truck.

Jamie Lynn Meekins, 37, was found guilty of second-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a felon in the 2012 death of 28-year-old Rodney Derek Stone, court records show.

He crashed into an abandoned home at Olevia Street and Philips Highway and left the bleeding Stone inside as he got into a pickup that was following them. Police stopped spotted the truck at Lane Avenue and Ramona Boulevard and arrested Meekins and his 42-year-old brother, Shane Lee Meekins, according to Times-Union archives.

Inside they found the murder weapon and the victim’s blood, the State Attorney's Office said.

Jamie Meekins will be sentenced the week of Sept. 15 and faces life in prison. His brother pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact and is scheduled to be sentenced the week of Sept. 8, court records show.
