The Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man recovered from the St. Johns River Tuesday in Jacksonville's Riverside area.

The man's body was found east of the 1500 block of Lancaster Terrace, where he was first discovered in the water about 9:30 a.m., said Sgt. Jay Farhat. Witnesses said a cane equipped with an arm brace and a Jaguars hat were found near where he went into the water. Surveillance photos show him walking near the water then sitting down on the seawall before going off the wall.

Farhat said no foul play is suspected. Detectives were seeking next of kin information early Tuesday afternoon.

He said the man appeared to be in his late 70s. He was discovered by a tenant of a condominium on Lancaster. The body then drifted east with the tide to a spot near the Fuller Warren Bridge, he said.
