Florida Highway Patrol trooper, tow truck driver killed while clearing crash on I-75 in Ocala

A trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol and a tow truck driver were killed on Interstate 75 in Ocala Saturday when a pickup truck hit them both while they were clearing a previous crash.

The trooper arrived at the scene of a two-car crash in the southbound lanes of I-75 about 1:40 p.m. at mile marker 341 and another crash happened 20 minutes later, according to the Highway Patrol.

The trooper was talking to the tow truck driver on the shoulder when another crash involving multiple vehicles occurred in the southbound lanes of I-75, according to the FHP.

A pickup truck hit the patrol car and then hit the trooper, the tow truck driver and another pedestrian in the east shoulder, according to the FHP.

The trooper and tow truck driver were pronounced dead at the scene and the other pedestrian was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to the FHP.
